There is hardly a melody in this track but there is this, to me awesome, (loop) bassline. (1975)

Wooah. Now this sounds real old school. I wasn't even born yet. Lol! :P

This is a nice song. There are not many instruments/synth sounds playing in it, but yet it sounds cool and enjoyable.
And that says alot and proves, that you don't need a ton of instruments/synth sounds, to make a good track. :D

The other thing I noticed, is that the singers, come into the song with perfect timing, making you forget that the song is a looping one. And that's, a classic music trick. :D
Yep they use tricks to hide the loop and I was about 12 when this was in the charts.

Over the last two years though even tracks like this sound different to me. I notice more details.
Although I cant say yet, I know yet how to do this when composing ( in lmms) I at least start to hear in most tracks how the melody and bassline are intertwined.

Found a fade to grey cover from a "band" called future breeze. ( whom I know of their hit, why wont you dance withe me )

Spot on cover as far as I am concerned.
And that guitar at 1.18 :o
ATROCITY - Fade To Grey
ATROCITY is the important part :p
-And then again, its right on my own mill. I use to say when the topic is 'covers' -Do something to it, make it your own, well they tried :p

I just listened to the remixes of that Fade to Grey song.
The first one is okay.
But I don't like the modern sounding rock version/vid though. Too creepy for my tastes. :P

The original 80's version sounds nice, but the video is artistic, yet creepy. :P

Strangely, when I watched the 80's music video, I noticed that the singer, the one with the face paint,
strangely kinda reminded me, of that 80's singer called Boy George. I hope I got his name right. :)
Woah this topic is gigantic
Ikr. Learning keeps you going for a while.

Its funny that I was somewhat doing this in some songs, without realizing it.
I need to pay more attention to this:

Site also shows some chord progression.
Although there is not really something new for me on that page, those pics of somebody doing in a program like us, makes a lot of difference to me.
Speaking of that same pic, I looked at it again, and I just checked out the site you linked.
I must say, it is an interesting read. :geek:

And sometimes, it never stops. :P
Which is why, some topics are gigantic. :D
You guys should check out, some of the topics on Unity Forums.
Some are ridiculously, over 100 plus pages. He! He! :D
And that's a big Wooah!! 8-)
I remember when I started serious with LMMS.

I was expecting to figure out most in just a few months. ( make a hit in 3 months)

Then I found out how much there is to learn. Its not just some of the music theory you need to know, but to work with synthesizers is a study by it self.

Last few months I have not made any music. I was thinking about all I have learned in the last two years or so, and was listening to music I like.

It has happened a few times now, but the thing that has changed most is my (musical) hearing.
I can pick out more details, and slowly start to develop a feel for, how any hit I like, would look like in lmms.

That was / is also the most frustrating part for me. I tried to cover something but could not figure out why my cover sounded so lame compared to the original.
I still have a lot to learn , but I am starting to have fun again. A lot of the stuff I learned felt like restrains.
But now I am starting to come to a point were I know how to ignore the rules. ( to put it very simple use you're ears)

It was a female musical teacher that opened my eyes on this.
She was playing deliberately some tones out of scale. Then looked at the class and said was this right according to musical theory ? no its was not.
But did we hear anything wrong with it ? again no.

Enough talk, I think this piece I am working on does show my progress and my ongoing struggle. ( note lengths)
Will it be a dance track or more something along the lines of Jean Michel Jarre?
For now it feels like I need to split this into two tracks. :P ( and something about chord progression)

Does anybody recognize which omd track inspired the siren like part ?

I agree with you on the "rules" GPS. Sometimes it is just all about playing the music you like and able to play the music you want to play. For sure there are technical stuffs like scale, arpeggios etc etc...but sometimes you may get motivation by just playing something that actually sounded good.

Not sure if it would interest you or maybe too basic for you, but I just started out a blog on just plainly sharing with people on how to play simple chords and how to start from there. It's totally new, so bare with me. Check it out if you like https://learnpianochordspro.com/
