Support for multiple MIDI channels?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
I am extremely new to MIDI sequencers. I can plug my Yamaha digital piano into my laptop and use it with garageband, and that's basically my experience. On my Akai MKII mini (Which honestly, I won't have until monday), will I be able to assign the pads to a drum set, and the keys to another instrument?
Having never seen your instrument, I can't say for certain. However, I know for a fact that I
can change the MIDI channel on my Casio WK-220. Whether or not the drum pad and the keyboard
can have separate channels, I don't know. Keep in mind though, that you'd have to give each pad a
seperate channel for each drum sample, otherwise, they'd all play at once.

And to the forum :)
Welcome brooks21230! First, For you all important links:

Im afraid its not possible. There has been several other topic about splitting a keyboard to several instruments. Afaik, no one has succeeded. Weather that is so for a split of kb and drumpads, i cant say, but i doubt it.
The one time I used a drum pad with LMMS, it interpreted it as a keyboard :/

That will work if you have a drumset soundfont though.
