OK, LMMS newbie here.
I was following a tutorial on How to Make Epic Music with LMMS — it was the next one after "how to create a basic sequence."
I laid down the bass tracks ok. When doing the melody tracks, I noticed something: The notes in the video had lines in them, which seem to denote additional applications of the note, like this:

I can't seem to duplicate this. I can place a note, and I can adjust its position and length. But that's about it. What I get is this:

The guy who made the video edited it so that we don't see how he places his notes. They appear, seemingly out of whole cloth, around 04:33 in the video.
What are these white lines called, and how can I duplicate them in my work?
