Hanging on startup (winXP)

On my system (Windows XP pro SP3), LMMS will not start. Instead it hangs, just showing the splash screen and a small, blank window that has the header "fluidsynth." I have left it for 5min and LMMS still does not start. The task manager consistently reports that LMMS is using about 50,000K of memory.
This happens with both LMMS 0.4.3 and LMMS 0.4.5
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

Hi,
I have a startup problem with LMMS v0.4.14.0 where the program hangs.
The splash screen is displayed but the program does not actually start.
I gather it will possibly be my computer (XP sp3) and a conflict with of one of the programs I have loaded.
But where do I start.
Is there an error log I can retireve?

I have no idea where you got a .3 or .5 version from, but those are utterly outdated
Try new .14

Try to completely remove current installation
Then dl the official current 0.4.14 once more

browse to the one that fits you..
If it hangs again... ;/
try closing other proggies from your task-mannager, and see if you can find the one that conflicts
-but now its a t&e process, and a tedious one as well..
