updating lmms

is this different from installing from scratch?

also, when i update lmms, what happens to my presets and plugins?
do i have to move everything to the new folder?
and do i uninstall the old version?

It depends. If you're on windows, you need to first remove the old version, and then install the new version. On Linux, you can use the provided update mechanism or package manager of your distribution.
