A synth like Skanner XT from Native Instruments

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
That VST, Skanner XT, is something strange. I can't explain it, so please read this part of its description in NI site:
SKANNER XT mixes sampler and synthesizer, two oscillators ‘scan’ a sample.
At low frequencies you get the ‘scratch’ sound of the sample being read back and forth, while at higher frequencies the dominant force is the oscillators being shaped by the sample waveform.
Since I don't know much about sampling, is this so new and magic? If it is, do you know of anything similar?
My problem is that it is shareware and it's 200+Mb (so not exactly good for lmms on windows xD)

Note: I'm not sure this is the right section for this!
Sounds pretty much like just a wavetable synth that varies the length of the wavetable according to note frequency. I don't know if it's that new or "revolutionary" or anything.
