I am in general not a big fan of classic music but maybe its just opera I don't like.

Recognized that second piece. :o

Form a cover by a dutch band, never knew it was from bach though, but I knew allot of their pop music is based on classic music. ( ekseption, don't blame me for that spelling ;) )

I also noticed on you tube two slightly different versions. I wonder if one is a re-recording.
The difference is very small, and I probably only noticed this because I have a greatest hits CD of Vangelis.

The synth at 0.28

and then this one at 0.28

The second version is the one I am more familiar with. :o

First version does sound better, sound quality wise.
Yeah I agree Gps. The first version does sound better. :)
The second version, sounds a bit low quality and some of the sounds in it, sound pale
and a bit quiet/drowned out. :P

Wait, you're dutch and you don't like classical music? Ha! Ha!
Just kidding. :D
I know that some europeans, don't like classical music. :)

Ever listened to moonlight sonata?
Super long version (15 mins): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJf2Br9uia0

People like it so much, even the Japanese video game Resident Evil, had fan favourite hero girl
Jill Valentine, playing it on the piano. In the vid, she plays the good part of the tune. :)

Yeah, even I was surprised to find out, that alot of bands from europe, especially rock bands
sample heavily from old classical music.

I guess they can't resist the classics. Probably because it's in their genes/blood. :)
I have to admit I recognize the beginning, that part is not bad, but I do not really like the track. sorry.

Always interested though.

Ok its orchestral, but it is SO definitively an Opera, and one with capital O!

(Used btw in a epic classic BugsBunny cartoon :p

From the most Operatic Opera of all: -The Ring!
Classical Operas are drizzled with epics like those, but i give you: some of the 'talkeative' motiefs, can be somewhat of a drag..

Aaaand one with 'voice' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewzy9l96yqc
Hard to explain why, but I don't like it.

Maybe there is still hope for me. I listened to the entire tracks.

The one with the singing, I definitely don't like.

An exception to the rule, of something I do like.

I like loads of instrumental classical music, all the way from the 16th century up to today. But I still can't stand opera.

Those really high screechy female singers literally make my ears hurt. It's a shame because the composers are often good, the overtures, where they play some of the tunes without the singing, are often great...then they start screeching and I dash for the off switch.

Still, there's plenty of music out there. You don't have to like everything.

Steve
I always want to ask the screechy female singers :P

Did you get hurt ?

I don't know what it is, if you ask me, if I like classical music, I am leaning toward no, bust still I bought once upon a time in the west, on vynil, many years ago ;)

An nice example, of something I really like. Or does this not fall under classical music?

or where does it hurt..
Yes i would believe it is coleraturic singing you both really hate, and it is definitively not for all, but some pieces are amazing
G.O. Richard and his Valchyrians..

nahh 'new classic' i believe we could call it. but brilliant movie music!
I googled coleraturic singing, and bingo.

I totally don't like that. I can understand it takes allot of skill, but can't stand it.

It has been bugging me for years, but now I am at peace with it.
Why do I like most pop versions of classical music better then the originals?

Is it the drums ?

This however I do like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUQHGpxrz-8

On the danger of offending people, I hear a trance / house hit in there.

Around 10 seconds, boom boom boom boom and an arpeggio on top ? :P
