I found a fancy new addition (VST) to LMMS, which gives a bit more flexibility than AudioFileProcessor:

Works with VeSTige.
However, two problems:
First, for some reason volume is almost inaudible, which is curious, because in other DAW in this same (Linux) system it works correctly. Amplifier corrects this, of course.
Second, VeSTige maps tones several octaves differently than other systems I tried this. Not a problem if you try out in LMMS and find the level, but importing MIDI files causes a mess.
However; one guitar sample and I was able to play two octaves OK; and with free guitar amp sims this turns to electric MIDI guitar!
