VST Plugins Maxing Out CPU (Windows 10 x64 Home)

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Hi Guys - thanks for taking the time to read this!

I just brought a new PC but I'm having trouble with Vestige/VST plugins. Whenever I use some VST plugins the CPU completely maxes out and it becomes unusable - this normally happens after 10 seconds. This doesn't happen for every plugin but unfortunately it happens on all the plugins I have that sound good.

System Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Home x64
CPU: Intel i7 6-cores
RAM: 32gb

My old PC was running Windows 7 Home x64 and other than the occasion 'pop' during playback the same projects ran OK. I'd get one every now and then where the sound would completely die but it didn't happen often and normally invoved using a lot of VST plugins at once.

I've tried everything I can in the settings, like disabling HD audio output, increasing the buffer size and using SDL but none of those have made a difference. Kinda bummed out because at the moment LMMS is completely unusuable but I don't want to use anything else :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Just saying that some VSTs are o.k. but the ones you like aren't o.k. isn't really very helpful.

The names of the plugins that cause you problems and maybe links to them might allow someone else to check out what's happening.

The plugins I'm using are mostly DSK plugins, with the most noticeable drop in performance being for the DSK AcoustikKeyz piano plugin.

Okay. Some DSK Vst's, don't work well with lmms.
That vst that you mentioned, called DSK AcoustikKeyz, sometimes gives problems in lmms.

If you're using the latest lmms called Lmms 1.1.3, I suggest that you update
to the latest RC, the orange buttons and see, if that vst and others, work in it.

....ok 8'] so you are running LMMS from NASAs "Mission To Mars" Control-room ...Thats mmm.. rather ..neat

With that said, it is now possible to exclude inferior hardware as a reason... :0)

But then we get to LMMS itself. Current off. release 1.1.3 is so old, that it is not 'liked' by windows10
So as Brandy says. Update:
Because you already have installed one version of LMMS, i recommend you to follow this:

*Un-install current installation
*(re)move the config dot-file
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=LM ... h_Settings
*download a fresh new installation-pack either x32 or x64 of
LMMS 1.2.0 RC7 Orange buttons!
https://lmms.io/download/#windows
*re-install as administrator and grant all users access

Next do a sanity test for VST:
DL MDA-Piano http://mda.smartelectronix.com/synths.htm
It is very small in size, and you can just copy it to your folder. -Eg NO installation! Further its a quite good piano-instrument, so it is a win win

Let us know the outcome :)

Besides that, since you are new in Forum

Ah that might be it then. I'm using 1.1.3 so I'll give the beta 1.2.0 a try!

Thanks :)

Thanks for the instructions. I was using 1.1.3 so I'll give the beta a go and let everyone know how I get on.

Also special shoutout to NASA for lending me their launch controller :)
Just tried it with 1.2.0-RC7 and it's miles better! I had been avoiding the release candidate (new PC and didn't want anything to mess up jut in case) but I wish I'd used it sooner since everything is much more stable and it looks a lot sleeker too :D

It still struggles with DSK AcoustikKeyz but a lot of the other DSK plugins I was using worked a lot better so I'm pretty happy with the overall performance.

Thanks everyone for your help :)
