I just saw yet another example of music theory misinformation online. The website states that the reason A minor is the most popular key in EDM is because there are no sharps or flats.

Usually when musicians mention the A minor scale we mean what is also known as the harmonic minor scale. Suppose you play a scale from A4 to A5 on the white keys only. That's the natural minor scale, which comes from the Aeolian mode. The harmonic A minor scale raises the G to G#. It makes a big difference. There is also the melodic minor scale. Learning these three types of minor scales is one of the very first lessons in music theory.
