External audio source realtime into LMMS?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello,

trying LMMS for the first time and I am looking around but couldn't find a way to route external audio source through LMMS without sampling the audio.

I am using Ableton on Windows and there's a device called "External instrument". It allows me to send Midi to external hardware and configure an audio in to get the sound from the external instrument back into the DAW, process it there with VST and other . Using NI Audio 8 DJ soundcard this allows me to to route up to 8 (mono) or 4 (stereo) inputs into Ableton.

Is there something similar possible with LMMS under Linux?

I know Audio 8 DJ can be used with Linux DJ software, so the hardware should be able to provide this.
Can't be done.

Atm LMMS cant do a lot in MIDI.
Only connecting an external MIDI-keyboard, so you can capture played midinotes.
LMMS also have no wave-recording capacities, yet.
Better MIDI support is being discussed here:

You are welcome to add your request there.
thanks!
well.. bummer. MIDI not that important as I have plenty hardware sequencers. MIDI clock would be enough. But wave input/recording would really be needed...
Don't wanna scare you away from LMMS, but for Linux Ardour is an option, That daw can record audio.

Only way to get recorded audio into LMMS is to record with adaucity, then import the wave file into the audio file processor.
I'm not sure if this might help, but what about this? https://www.reddit.com/r/lmms/comments/ ... er_for_an/

That is a very interesting post!
I have added this as a theoretical option. I am using any external-HW and do not have any, so actually testing this someone with a HW-synth prefereably with drum-capacities would be needed.
Many thanks NOVAVA, and sorry that we overlooked your post! 👍
