Tips for a noob?/How do I find the sound I want?

Working on a theme for LMMS? Post progress and get feedback.
I don't know anything about arpeggios, LFOs or what have you. Just a noob playing with instrument plugins trying to make remixes and stuff for animations. I've made one spooky, metroid-esqe ambient tone to play on a loop. Made good progress with a remixed team rocket hideout theme, but the program crashed trying to import a plugin.

Along with the request for general tips and advice, I also run into a more specific problem I hope someone can help me with.

This has been getting better as I play with the program and plugins more, but I tend to open up the program and decide "Alright. This is the sound I want for this part." So I scroll through different instruments trying to find what I want, and often don't find it, get tired of it and close the program.

Some programs can be used without insight. DAWs are not that kind of program!
If you wont spend time undestanding the most basic in bothe sound-synthesis and music-theory, you will not be able to use a DAW
the program crashed trying to import a plugin.
All programs can crash, and loose data, but in LMMS we have several security-features that prevent dataloss. Read :

I had a similar experience when experimenting with remixes and animation sounds. It's common to have a specific sound in mind but not quite know how to achieve it. What I found helpful was learning the basics of sound design, which allowed me to create the sounds I envisioned rather than endlessly scrolling through presets.

FAQ Audio was one resource that helped me bridge the gap in my understanding. It's a treasure trove of information for beginners and advanced producers alike. On FAQ Audio, I found detailed explanations and tutorials on synthesizers, effects, and even troubleshooting common issues like software crashes. This site helped me grasp the fundamentals of music production, making it easier to use my chosen software, Ableton Live 12, more effectively.

My trick: instead of diving straight into the plugin abyss, try sketching out your idea first with a basic sound. Once the vibe is there, tweaking becomes way more focused.
