Fortunately, VST3 has been on the dev's radar tracker for a while (since at least 2018).
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/pull/5801 is an example of preparation for including VST3 support.

I just got VST3 plugins working in LMMS (Windows) using Element. It's explained here:

Tip - I could set an additional plugin folder from the standalone version of Element. And then those settings carried over into the VST version of Element (accessed through VeSTige) in LMMS.
