weird square on the upper left corner of vst effect

This is on Linux -right?
It is a scale issue. The box that you see should be a tittle-line, not at all a squared box.
Perhaps embedding can be the problem.
Try the options for embedding in Settings 1. tab
I also need to ask you about your distro, and if you use the AppImage from our homepage?
