Playing a selected instrument only (MIDI Keyboard)

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
I recently got a MIDI Keyboard for Christmas, but i'm having trouble with it (not the keyboard but lmms using the keyboard)

When you use a normal keyboard for playing instruments (like the qwerty keyboard) it plays the one you have clicked on. (for example, triple osc plays when i have it selected, kicker does the same thing, ect.)

I want the keyboard to work like my qwerty keyboard, the way the instruments are selected.

Is there an option to do this?

Thank you,

I have read the midi chapter, and the midi keyboard works only when a vst or instrument has midi input on.
The way you like only works for the QWERTY keyboard because there's guaranteed to be only one of them. There can be several MIDI keyboards connected at once playing different instruments on different MIDI channels or even a split keyboard playing different channels or one keyboard can play several instruments at once. LMMS can't sort all that out automatically for you.

So you have associate the MIDI device/channel you want to use with the instrument(s) you want it to play. It's not exactly a lot of work ;).

Googled this some more, theres actually a suggestion for this. I hope they implement it.

Anyway, thanks for the help! :D

It sounds like a good idea to me. Can you please provide a link to that issue?

I couldn't find it in the tracker.

It was in a forum post, but I made an issue on github for it. https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/3185

No, not really!
Even if you have multiple MIDI keyboards assigned to different tracks, only the selected track should play—simple as that. How would that affect other MIDI keyboards connected to different channels?

If you want to play two synths at once, you can simply hold Shift and select the other track or synth you want to play simultaneously, provided it's connected to the same MIDI keyboard.

Where’s the complication?
