Working directory on linux

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
I recently did a fresh install of Devuan (think Debian) on my system with a single partition. Previously when using Debian I believe the whole lmms installation was in my home folder, or at least the working directory. Now it appears to be under /usr/share which requires root access, and thus I cannot save any projects, unless I change working directory to home folder, which is fine, I'm just confused that there are two locations. Would you recommend simply working under /home?

Edit: there was another problem but it seems fixed, was looking to remove this post but doesn't seem possible. Anyway feel free to answer, but I think my problem is mostly solved.

Edit: Off topic but is it possible to remove "gig" and "soundfonts" so they don't take up space in /samples ?

Good you solved your install issue. No the list of instruments cant be edited without making your own customized build.
