LMMS freezing anytime i open up the file manager

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

Hey, so i been using lmms for a long time now and i have never experienced something like this before.

I used to produce on a very old and unstable laptop and surprisingly it was pretty good and fluid! Recently i bought a way better PC and migrated all my old stuff, samples, plugins, projects to a hard drive that is directly connected to my pc's motherboard, and for a month it was working just as good as i though, no lag and no freezes. Yesterday i was just working on a beat but once i opened the file manager to load up a VST it just crashed my whole lmms instance, making me wait like 5 minutes or more just to be able to use the file manager, and that's what have been happening every time i wanna do something related to the file manager. When i save my project, export, try to load a sample or a vst the file manager pops up and freezes for a long time, completely ruining my workflow.

I'm running lmms 1.3.0 alpha on Debian 12, with an AMD Ryzen 5 CPU and 16 gigs of ram

I tried changing the directory for lmms files and changing from one hard drive to another and it just doesn't works, i even tried using older lmms versions and its still the same. I have changed between Wayland and Xorg but it stills not working.

LMMS is just so good for me and i cant get used to any other DAW because it just isnt the same for me. Hope someone can help me with this.

  • the directory for lmms files

    it just doesn't works

running lmms 1.3.0 alpha
-Is it our AppImage??
But that cant be the issue anywitch
The focus-point need to be:

Yesterday i was just working on a beat but once i opened the file manager to load up a VST it just crashed my whole lmms

So what else did you do 'Yesterday' ?
Something happened that gave LMMS problems and made it crash. Sometimes an issue like this is very hard to pinpoint, other times it is soo simple. As a simple one i need to ask if you have :

  • tried empty-standard-project?
  • chosen the setting: Open-latest-Project
  • ..And of cause you have restarted your pc.... Right?
    ??

I’m having a similar issue with LMMS freezing when opening the file manager. It seems to hang for a long time whenever I try to load a VST, save a project, or browse files.

I’ve also tried switching between Wayland and Xorg, different LMMS versions, and even moving my files to another drive, but nothing has fixed it. Running LMMS 1.3.0 alpha on Debian 12, Ryzen 5, 16GB RAM.

Could this be related to how LMMS handles file access in the latest alpha? Maybe running it from the terminal could show some error logs when it freezes? Would be great to know if anyone has found a fix!

So pretty much all I/O opp. has a long latency ..
With "Latest Alpha, do you mean This:
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... 4.AppImage
-Or do you have a different version than the AppImage i linked to?
If you do, then backup, remove installed version and install the linked version.
Report back if the problem persists -And yes, a log from terminal will help our analysts

And.. You too are Welcome to the Forum Hationger !
