I'm new here and would like some instructions.

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!

I downloaded LMS wanting to learn a bit about music theory, my new and unhealthy addiction to experimental music. I'd like to know if there are any other instrumental/experimental music addicts here. What do you usually listen to in order to learn, and where should you start thinking about instrumental music when moving on to LMS (I'm talking about ideas)? How should I begin to think and open my mind? Where should I begin to expand my mind regarding music theory and sound effects? And ending with a technical and boring question, is it almost always necessary to use an equalizer to make the instruments sound better More realistic? Thank you in advance, and it's important for me as a human being and music lover to talk to everyone who doesn't just use it for commercial purposes and truly loves the experience. Sound experiences that we call music.

As new to LMMS and maybe also to DAWs in general(?) perhaps my video Rookie-guide can be useful for you. Link in my signature!

learn a bit about music theory,

Yes we recommend that! There are lots of places online you can go to, but i also made basic tutorials:

We always recommend to listen to a lot of the type of music you like the most, and that you properly also want to make. Listen, but in a different way:
Listen for

  • what instruments the artists use
  • How the song is structured
  • what type of effects are used
That gives you a different understanding of the genre you like

is it almost always necessary to use an equalizer to make the instruments sound better More realistic?

Yes! EQs are very important, especially when we mix. Frequencies are expensive, and making a mess out of too many fighting is a typical mistake
