How do I make nice sounding music as an artist/programmer

well, ya -if you have the money, and want to go all in, then yes, but it is in no way a pre-request.
Generally recommended is that if people get a keyboard, then it should be 'normal' sized, in respect to design. I gues this recommendation focus, that if you teach yourself how to be a pianoplayer on a mini-sized kb, then you wont be able to play as a pianoplayer on a .. piano :p

should I buy one of those pianos/keyboards or whatever they are that you can hookup to your computer and learn to play piano/keyboard?

I know I wouldn't, but perhaps I am a bit sparse with money. I understand the idea, by learning an instrument you are bound to learn the ideas about notes and lengths and more music theory, but you can probably do the same only with a computer.
