It still begs to ask the question why, what is likely THE most common file type - mp3 - is NOT supported by this software? I am not advanced tech-savvy and all of this file converting...it is such a hassle! Will there be a plugin or an update to make this software compatible with mp3?

Nope, it has nothing to do with 'tech-savvy-ness' at all
As i already wrote: The royalties for encoding is absurd. 'circumvention' would be fool hearted

In a music workstation like this... wav!
You also see ogg, mp3 and other formats but not for doing a remix of a final track. You just don't use a lossy format for a final track. Ask your friend to render as wav.

It's too much hassle to deal with mp3 from our side because of the license as musicbear already has pointed out. My advice is to just get used to it.

PS. Didn't any of the converters work?

Working with lossy formats such as MP3 is just bad practice . MP3 is fine for exporting, but when it comes to the actual music production process, you will want to work with lossless formats.

I don't like working with .ogg samples either.

If your source files are in MP3, then you will have to convert them to .wav first, but the quality of those files will never exceed the source quality.
