Although its not helping much, for this track, a small tip I like to share.

Youtubevids, open them with vlc, then select speed slower.

Can somebody tell is this sounds right ? ( only 30 seconds)

My question is not about the instruments used, but if this a part of rhythm of Moby Go ?

I have been slowing the track down allot with vlc, and I think I got it ?

It for some part confuses me. The high tones are spaced in a weird way. (weird to me) but my ears seem to agree, that this is what moby does ?

As usual I am prob over thinking it to much, but that's why I could use some confirmation.
It might be close but its wrong.

Comparing the midi file (which did not sound perfect either), with synthesia I think I got it.

The main reason why i do not want to use midi data, is me not learning from that.

Still worried about the rhythm part. That synthesia vid, does not show it. So for now my only source is the midi file for that part.

For now happy, because I did manage to use less of the midi file. Progress.
I have some thinking to do.

Most of the time when I try a cover and cant find sheet music , I get frustrated because I cant make it sound 100% the same.

What I could do though, is make my own drums and percussion to the strings of Moby / twin peaks.

I need to have fun with LMMS, not getting frustrated.

Been comparing the original to that piano tutorial. I seriously doubt it exactly the same as moby does.
It close though.
I'm sure I've said this before but most of the (free) sheet music you find is actually derived from midi files....and they are only an interpretation of the original track of very varying quality.

And also with any modern electronic music there will be quite a few things going on that it's simply not possible to write in standard music score. Things like a filter sweep on white noise and the way the sound in a good pad flows and changes.

Rather than trying to do exact covers why not go for something that sounds like it might have been by the musician/producer you like....perhaps more like your reggae track. Then you've got it right when you think "Yeah Moby could have done that". LMMS is brilliant but still your chances of getting something that sounds absolutely identical to someone who may have spent days in a studio with dozens of professional musicians, engineers and producers getting his track right are not great.

I buy my sheet music from music shops, When I do a cover I make it my own adding my own style. It will end your frustration of trying to make it sound someone's work other than your own.
Good examples are my of covers "Morning Has Broken" and "How Great Thou Art" It's a piano style I love to use.
Thank you guys, and you are right.

I already reached a point were I wanted to quit LMMS.

But then I asked myself a question, do I want to stop making music ?

The answer was no, so I need to change my attitude towards making covers / music.

What had been bugging me too, at one time I got stuck with a piece.
Then after smoking some weed, I got unstuck.

For weeks I was wondering why the hell did smoking weed help?
(and I don't think I have to explain, why I don't want to smoke weed every day)

The answer is simple. After a joint I am relaxed, and don't care if I am doing it right.
And that's exactly the attitude I need for making music.

Think less, and try more. My best pieces come from using a midi controller, and not caring one bit if I am in key or not.
We can fix that in lmms afterward, when listening to it.

Exactly !!

That's where your style will come out, and you will have more fun in doing so.
And the fun is back, who cares its not exactly like moby ? I don't :P

Link from previous post wont work anymore.

I am very happy with the result. The fun is back since I stopped worrying about making it an exact copy.

How to call this ? A cover , A remix ? (its not a true remix, because I have not been remixing)

Used a midi file, for some tracks (the fast hi hats to name one) used some of the midi track as inspiration, but changed it a bit, added some of my own.
Also used a youtube vid, a piano tutorial for Go, but changed that a bit too.
Added a choir, and some track, I do not have a clue how to call it.
An happy accident ? I changed an audio file processor track to a Watsyn track, and right away had a sound I really liked.
Don't understand how this works, but its seems that some of the drum presets, for the audio file processor, work in Watsyn. LOL
If you can recognize it, its the bit slower beep beep beep track.

As always would like to get some feedback, but I am very happy with it myself.
Some part I like better then the original.

The strings you hear are two ZynaddsubFX tracks. The are the same, but one is a string preset, and the other a brass preset.

Named it Go2
