Instrument samples playing short

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
@musikbear I didn't get it from midi files, it was manually inputted onto the piano roll. It was getting too frustrating, so I just remade all the necessary tracks. Luckily the piece wasn't too long.
newbie9999 wrote:@Eino Thanks! This soundfont stuff sure sounds better than samples. So I just need to add a whole bunch of SF tracks and change instruments in the AFP window right? Also, what are the source and the license of this soundfont pack?

@slipstick I saw VST mentioned a lot, haven't looked deeper in it yet, but will do.
I had that sfpack so long, I forgot where it came from. I remember that some of the instruments in the pack was still under development. So some of them may need some tweaking, to get the right sounds.
@Eino mmm, I found this using the filename: http://soundfonts.gonet.biz/search.php? ... 02%20combo

But it's uploaded by someone, so it doesn't guarantee that the license is free for any purpose... That Brent Westwood Symphony Orchestra's website may have something similar, but that link can't be accessed, so I don't know.

I want to avoid getting a nasty copyright surprise down the road, so please try to remember where did that come from and the license.
I logged into the Merlin Soundfonts banks, and had no trouble down loading it.
Thank's for reminding me where it came from. It's the same one. Yes it's a free file from that site.
The Merlin Pro GM soundfont banks, are acquired by the point system. Ether by uploads, or donations to the site.
The Merlin Pro GM soundfont banks are copyrighted material. The free files are public domain.
Edit second thoughts.
Most of the Symphony Orchestras are out of the business of making soundfonts , and more into making wavetables for more professional and realistic sounding computer software. Most are included with a high dollar DAW.

You're welcome. But euh, your second thoughts are giving me second guesses too. So is this soundfont from West Symphony Orchestra in public domain or not? Because the uploader could have uploaded a copyrighted soundfont bank to earn credits too (Is that possible?). The scenario you mentioned means that orchestra may suddenly pops back into life and claim copyright?
All I'm finding are dead links for Brent Westwood Symphony Orchestra's soundfonts.
and I can not find any text files anyplace. I'm now removing it from my backup on Google drive.
But most of them are a good quality soundfont.

Here is a ftp link for FluidR3_GM.sf2 I know this is public domain
Yeah, the fonts are quite decent, it's a shame that the orchestra kind of died out on the Internet and we are left haunting by the question of copyright.

The top search results for free soundfonts are the ones from Newgrounds and Devianart. How reliably free do you think of those? It seems like a lot of people are using them and it was posted since 2010.

Thanks, although it appears to MIT license (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont)? Even though it doesn't make a lot of difference for most purposes.
