Another way to stop a program is the taskmanager. But I am not sure I should advice this, if you do not know what you're doing.

In general on windows xp and win 7, press control + alt + del, and then click task manager. See if you can find the piano /vst there. Then kill only that program from there.

Do NOT go randomly delete things there, of which you do not know what they are, there will be a lot things shown there of which I don't know either what they do, but Windows needs most of them, so you can't close those, unless you want your computer to crash.

Oh i would have liked that this new question had been on a new post, indeed, because your q is not directly relevant to the discussion above.
You obvious want to connect lmms to a midi-keyboard, and you have a problem with that :)

First i would like you to read the chapter in wiki, about using midi, and try those advices.

If you cant make it work, then in your next post, please ad:
* OS (+service-pack-ver)
* lmms vers
* hardware specification (ram & soundcard is the most imortant)
* lmms sound device chosen
* if any -screenshots of error
* names and best download links of the failing vst's
* name and mark of your midi-keyboard

should i start a new thread then? the error was lmms hung/crashed whilst trying to load any VST, I had to turn the function off for projects to load.

* OS (+service-pack-ver)
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

* lmms vers
1.1.3 (Linux/x86_64, Qt4.8.6 GCC 4.8.4 )

* hardware specification (ram & soundcard is the most imortant)
16gb RAM
Soundcard is the standard one on my Gigabyte X79-UP4 motherboard

* lmms sound device chosen
ALSA

* if any -screenshots of error
Screen just went black & hung at a certain % of project loaded

* names and best download links of the failing vst's
was trying to load Spire, Predator & Chronox 3 I think

* name and mark of your midi-keyboard
I don't have a keyboard yet, was just trying to work out what the sync VST setting did
