sfz is specific for cakewalk. If you can find any vst that use this cakewalk format, then you can use your sfz within that vst, but .sfz definition file is just a text file, so there is no audio data in the file. its more as a shedule for when / how to play audiofiles

When you're searching about making music in general, you can often go look at tutorials for other softwares, sound synthesis and electronic music is more or less the same everywhere.
Also thinking and googling about how to emulate this or that effect in LMMS is often pretty educative.
One of my favourite is boyinaband, he made a few very good tutorials.
