and played away. It doesn't show any 'key off' activity until I actually release the key so it's failing to intercept some of the repeats and this seem to be a bug in Qt (issue 851). I guess we have to do something like search through the notes to rule out that it isn't already playing.

This is wrong. It does perform a key off, at least Piano::handleKeyRelease() is invoked. I'm continuing this in https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/851

It seems to be an issue with Xorg or Qt rather than LMMS. I wonder if LMMS could work around it...I have no experience with GUI programming so I can't say more about that.
