Yes, exactly. In the interest of creating shareable, modifiable work. Many people license their samples "no modification/redistribution". I think this to be absurd and it makes collabs very difficult, not all do, but a good many do. I want the HA samples to be able to be shared and modified and such. But in order to do that, I have to make sure that the copyright owners are OK with that.
slipstick wrote: Personally I use very few samples and most of the ones I use are made by me, recording a sound (car revving, banging things, blowing kid's whistle etc) and then playing around with it. But I'm not sure they would be of much use to anyone else.
Steve
Ah, foley sounds. I quite enjoy recording those. You may not think of them as useful, but if you listen to music like Propaganda's "Excellent" you can hear them put to quite good use.

Lastly, I recognize the peril of releasing presets. I hope to release "dry" content. Meaning, you've got to EQ it, and add reverb , etc.to make it sound how you want. Also means you have the freedom to manipulate the sample how you want. (unlike some I've gotten). Also, modifying presets can produce new, different sounds. Some people don't quite yet have the sound design chops, and modifying presets is a good way to start

Ok, that makes more sense, thanks for the reply.

Steve
Yep. I'll never forgot that I made that statement. :)
Alot of people are intimidated, when it comes to making Synth sounds in Vst's.
Many people including myself, at one time, went through that problem.
Me making those tuts in the Tutorials Section, was a way of encouraging them
to want to turn dials and explore the vst's. And make them wonder and ask questions:

What does this dial do?
What happens if I turn this dial or that dial etc?
What happens if I turn this dial percentage more, than what the tut suggested?
What happens if i press the Unison button? :P

It's really fascinating when you think of it.
slipstick wrote:If you're just given a preset sound it's too easy to just use it and never think how it was made.

Steve
Yep. And that's one of the reasons why, when alot of people buy expensive synth Vst's, they always talk about
the ready made built in presets, that come with them and not of the Synth Vst's abilities, to make unique sounds.
And if that Vst doesn't have any good presets (their opinion) and they lack the will to try and make any,
they immediately label that vst as crappy. :P

That's very smart and a really good move. Because I have encountered alot of people on the net, who seem to ask for
dry samples, with no effects added to them. :geek:
And now, Hugsylvania's first relesease. I hope you like it!
