Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

Thanks for clarifying this.

Sorry, I forgot to ask you this before. :?
If possible. Can you show us some screen shots of your Lmms screen.
Especially shots of your General settings folder paths. and other options.
This can help us deduce, what is causing the problem a bit further.

Other Lmms screen shot pics are welcome also.
I can't get into lmms at all. The furthest it gets is automatically creating the user profile directories on its first run after installation (if they don't already exist), the splash screen for a split second, then it crashes immediately with the windows error message mentioned in my original post. My guess is that it crashes when it tries to load libportaudio-2.dll since that's the faulting module in its windows' event viewer error.

The path under wich it creates its lmms directories is C:\Users\Jared. No spaces or odd characters there. So the paths it has created automatically are:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\Jared\lmms
C:\Users\Jared\lmms\presets
C:\Users\Jared\lmms\projects
C:\Users\Jared\lmms\samples
do you have other partitions on your disk?
If you do, try install on one of those in the root.. like
H:\LMMS
and how much space do you have free on your C drive?
You need 2-3 GB for smooth runnings
If you have less, you may have a hickup at start for that reason, but install on a different drive/ partition, and avoid subfolder structure

The system has only one partition with about 240GB free. I'll try it in C:\lmms\ and let you know if that works.

Also do you have any ideas about the libportaudio-2.dll error? That seems to be the main culprit preventing lmms from starting.

afraid not, looks like a conflict, but why and 'where' - no idea
Friends,

Just to report that I'm going through the same issue here. Everything was working ok until about a week ago.
I did install drivers for the Roland Digital Piano I have. LMMS worked ok after that for a couple of days and now
this crash is occurring, even after uninstall/install, reboot, etc. I'll be happy to provide more debugging info
if needed.

Thanks!
Hmmm............I wonder what could be causing this "unusual," bug? :?
This is so strange. :?
As for lmgtfy.com I don't think I'll go there, never heard of the site. Show me a google link and I might follow it.
You have good humor @mace268
I just installed the 4.15 version and I am getting the same error.
I have the same error... I tried the same things too, that is installed the 64-bit and 32-bit version..http://johnvanhulst.nl/error.jpg. << a screenshot....
I tried the suggestion that libportaudio-2.dll is the cause of the crash. And yes, it is! I downloaded the alternate version of the dll with the link given in this thread, renamed the original one, copied the alternate version to the lmms installation folder (in my case c:\lmms) renamed this version to libportaudio-2.dll and: lmms starts up! :D Now I can start experimenting with the software. You might download the alternate version from my webspace: http://johnvanhulst.nl/lmms/libportaudio-2_asio2.dll. No virus inside it, I promise you all. At least my virusdetection (windows security essentials) didn't detect anything.
