I have tried transposing complete songs to different keys many times over many years, usually to get them to fit into a range that a singer likes. In all that time no-one has ever said "Oh you've made that song sound really sad by moving it into that other key" ;).

Tempo has a lot of effect and of course major vs minor but not (to my ears) a simple transposition. But it's probably just me because I do know plenty of people who insist that different keys sound "dark" or "happy" or "romantic". To me they just sound a bit higher or lower ;).

But as we've said many times....you need to listen to what YOUR ears are telling you. If it sounds good to you there will be other people out there who like how it sounds too.

Lol, well that's a bet I lost then.

I think I do hear for some part, major vs minor, sounding more happy or more sad.
But I have not totally figured it out yet. It seems the order of the notes, in which they are played, do a lot too.
Just something I like to share with you guys.

My latest composition, No Regret was made for a person I love.
She said she really liked it, and felt special.

Mission accomplished, and I could not have done this without the lessons from you guys.
Just like to share with you guys, that my reggae piece is making progress.

I think i will have to listen to reggae more, because my first attempt at a melody failed horrible.

I made it as usual, plugged in the midi controller, and played to the beat I created, but my melody does not sound reggae at all. :(
It almost kills the reggae beat I have, which I am starting to like. I added notes, on some tracks, and deleting notes on others.
There is now a bass line ( bass guitar like) I really like. Its a bit messy, but that's often with reggae.
It seems to have this up down thingy, I wanted.

Never give up never surrender :)
While listening to peter tosh, I think I found the biggest problem.

Right now the beat and all does not change, when the melody is played. Noticed while listening to peter tosh that bass and all follow the melody.

Bit stuck right now. Should I attempt to make a melody and then fit the rest, or change the rest first, so the melody will come out of the beat.

Could you post it on soundcloud, I'd like to hear it so I have a better idea what's going on.
Maybe I an be of some help.

Found it !
I am thinking about the feedback from the guy who made the tutorial.

I am listening to reggae drumrolls.

Its still one of my weakest points, transitions. Those few extra drumhits,
Reggae drums have strong accents on the 2nd and 4th beats.
That's one thing that's confusing to me, because there is also this accent on the third beats. Or is that not so much for the drums ?

I am trying to let my ears decide though, while trying to add a kinda drumroll, although its not much of a roll, but more a few extra hits.
