As to be seen in that house documentary.

Some funk mix, and the first song, is a nice example of the jazz influence musicbear is talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc1mfK6rpH8
Yep. I remember when you posted that House documentary some months back. :)

Okay.
I listened to some of the funk songs you linked, and I could hear the jazz influence.
Interesting.
After listening to it, I could kinda hear, where House music got it's roots from.
Thanks for the Funk wiki link.
Wooah! James Brown?
Okay, so he's the guy that sang that I feel good song? Interesting.

But if we posting disco classics how can you forget about Spank - jimmy Bo Horne ?
( although this prob is again more funk like)

Interesting. :geek:
The Spank song by that jimmy Bo Horne guy was kinda cool though. 8-)

Body talk was kinda,.........er,...........weird. Lol! :P

nope Funk-pop!
Well funk and disco are really close, but funk lean towards jazz. Lots of stuff from jacson5 is pure func, but otherwise..
The track here is funk-pop, and leans toward ..crap :D
Funk pop?

And also (imo) this is more disco:

James Brown -Yes absolutely right on Gps.
And if we compare his energy and musical precision to the (imho) wishy washy body talk meh, then its why i added 'pop' or if you like 'boyband-funk'
But a good rule of thumb if that is 'disco' has 7-th chords a.o. stabs -Its func! :p

Hheh That is a somewhat 'dissing' video by a danish band called shu-bi-dua. The have done several parodies of music genres and styles, but are also known for their almost uncunningly elegant texts in the for songwriters difficult danish language.
In that video the are ofcause parodying the BeeGee's
The first line translated goes something like:

"Here we are again, huge strong men, who sings like a castrated children qoir from bettlehem -The brd Dentals takes the highest fiss "

It should here be said that Detal in danish is Gebis :D .. and a fis is actually a fart :DD

He was not to happy with that, and made this track ( all youre copy cats out there....):

Funny that you and musicbear don't like body talk, but I can see why.

I have been listening to repetitive music for many years now, but do not find it easy to keep them all apart.
One problem is of course, that many songs are blends of at least two genres.

Funk has for me a more messy bassline, were a disco bassline in general is more simple and more doing the same as the drums.

I am not sure yet about a trance bass line, but I did notice while doing some experimenting, that changing the bassline, is prob what I need to do.

Not the first time, though, it went from an arpeggio to "real" notes, then I doubled the notes, and now starting to see why Musicbear made that remark about arpeggios. :)

Synth arpeggio's are constant. A lot of bass-line stuff in trance is not.

There are often loops with a small pause between them. ( not only the bass-line though, the "melody" often too.)

With the help of the main songs in the project file on LMMS should tell you what a trance bassline goes like.

Wow. Can't believe this topic is still going... O_O

The main reason why this topic is still going is me learning something, and not willing to give in this time. :)

Something about the bass-line and drums has been bugging me for some time now.

Slowly I start to hear, when I listen to music what is going on bassline vs drums.
The one thing making music changed most for me, is how I listen to music. And its still changing.

I start to notice more details, on songs I have heard many times before, not just trance.

One thing were I went wrong, is thinking I want to make trance without really knowing what kind of trance.

Musicbear said something about loops, listening to trance I suddenly remembered that.
One thing I don't really have melody wise, is loops. Not the ones like in the below vid.

Wooah!
That would explain why alot of rap songs, always have a James Brown vocal clip in them.
I know that in the 80's, a handful of musicians would put samples/clips, of James Brown, in their tracks too.

Is it the bassline melody you made that don't like?
Or is it that you don't like the Bassline sound you're using? :geek:
Gps wrote:One thing were I went wrong, is thinking I want to make trance without really knowing what kind of trance.
Okay. Makes sense now. Maybe that is what's keeping you back.
Best to listen to the Trance music that you're trying to make, than a whole bunch of different styles of Trance.
Gps wrote:Musicbear said something about loops, listening to trance I suddenly remembered that.

Melody loops?
Check this vid by Domitius TV. My secret Fav vid. 8-)

I Suggest listening to the first track, with the Desert beach pic.
Notice how even though it's the same melody loop, he keeps it interesting.
And you don't really get fed up.
And then the trance piano comes in. :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mroL0vJoMw
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2nd track by Air Night - Remember (Original Mix) Check out the looping melody.
And then the Trance piano comes in.
Oh, Airnight has some cool tuts on Youtube, even though he doesn't say anything. Lol!

The 4th track Sunset - The Blue Sky (Matt Skyer Remix) it loops over and over again.
You might want to check out that too if you want.

But the first track is the one I really suggest. ;)
It's so surreal and cool! And it's also my Fav. 8-)
