Yeah, helpful. Is helful even a word? I wouldn't know, I'm not a native English speaker.
Anyway, I'm playing with instrument layers now, let's see if any understanding surfaces from that pit of complexities.

Helful: something that is full of Hel, the daughter of Loki in Norse mythology.

I compose all of my music in my Mind!!
For Real dudes! No joke!
The problem for me is to make the Synth sound, from the plugin or VST, sound
"exactly," like how it does, in my mind.
And that ain't easy dudes!!
Trust me!

I make music depends on my mood. Just let it flow, you will get it.

I will recomend having 'genre-files', eg one project for each of the genres you are interested in. Use them like a painter uses his sketch-book. You will end up with a set of small pieces in each of these 'sketch-books', its not nessesary every one will be (good) enough for a real composistion, but you at least have a system for your small idears.

I start with Melody Assistant by Myriad (myriad-online.com). First I decide the mood and genre. Then I plug in a few chord progressions, and if I want it to have percussion, a percussion track at the very start of the project. It's much more difficult, if not impossible to do that if you're project is near completion. Then I start plugging in notes. Melody Asst is very flexible, and sounds OK with the playback. After I've finished, I export it as a MIDI file. Then I use various sound fonts to render it to a sound file.

I use a score editor with my keyboard, and start from that point. I have experience with music writing, I can look at sheet music, and know that it will sound like, when played on an instrument.
I'am old school, and it takes longer, but the end results are worth the effort, and deeply satisfying.
