..But, during the RC's for 1.2, it was decided to rename a couple of effects. So those may be missing from projects,
Don't remember this. Are you sure this wasn't on master?

No. I'm saying that I don't know what you're talking about. I would be happy if you provided a link to the issue in question.

Which links to a PR against master. https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/pull/4027
Also, that PR contains an upgrade path from the earlier plate reverb.

if they were renamed does that mean they wouldn't work right in old projects?
Yes, but thats a RC issue
Does this mean that dev can solve this?
Or that everyone will have to open all their projects in LMMS 1.1.3 and will have to note the effect parameter values whose name has changed before installing LMMS 1.2?

Sorry, I'm confused.

There is no name change in stable-1.2 to my knowledge. Plate2x2 is still named Plate2x2. Just install the latest beta and try it out. I switch back and forth between 1.1.3 and 1.2.0 almost daily and haven't seen any issues like the one musikbear describe. The name changes mentioned is in the development branch which will become lmms-1.3 and is nothing the user will have to think about as the fx is renamed on the fly when the file is loaded.

Thank you, you're right, I downloaded the RC6 and I will install it.

Has anybody else had the same problem ?
Yes, several im afraid
Are you still on 1.1.3?
backup your own stuff, then uninstall lmms completely, including the config dot-file:
Read:
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=LM ... h_Settings
DL and install 1.2.0 RC5 with the orange buttons on dl-site:
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... -win32.exe

I am not sure it will fix it, so please report back the result!
Sorry for the ridiculously late reply musikbear, but i am very happy to tell you it worked !!!
Synth1 is doing great again :)
