Very cool. Nice build up part from 3:38 secs, and lots of head bopping.

Advice: The main melody is nice.
But I think this track needs, maybe one or two short new melody variations
might make it sound more cooler.
Probably, (If possible) change a few keys in the melody parts, long before the cool parts start at 3:38 secs.

About the start, I blame a trance tutorial I watched.

Interesting suggestion though, I had an intro very much like the tutorial told me.
I totally did not like it.

Already changed so much only a bit of the structure is left.
Lets see if I can get in some short variations, to improve it.

IF you are dead set on making a 'classic' trancetrack, then go back to the structure that slipstick gave us, and follow it.
If i should point to one thing, then your breakdowns are too short, and comes too early, and that mean that you cant make a real buildup, after the breakdown

Do I like the track as it is ? Yes.

With the fast bell sound, I mean my layered scary bell and square ping. ( the part without them sounds more trance to me. lol )
If I use a more nasty sound I prob get closer to acid.

You also asked , should I care ? That is a very good point.
The artist is me says nope. The technician in me though...

Good example on acid I have also been listening to acid as in acid house.
With the often typical acid sounds used, its exactly like you just explained. One small loop over and over.

Yesterday messed a bit with my midi keyboard, and I think I have already found a more trance like melody.
It quite simple as always

C,1 bar then the second bar, FG FG FG FG then 3th bar A sharp and 4th bar FG FG FG FG and then I start over.
When making hits use the KISS principle. Keep It Simple Stupid.

And about the breakdowns, its for now only a rough sketch, with chord progressions.
Some changes I have in mind are making some pieces 2 bars instead of one, and then some key change over half a bar.
Seen structures like that in a lot of Trance. Right now I have a more standard chord progression.

Starting to hear were I go "wrong" Most instrument play the same over and over, there is no or almost no chord progression. Only the arpeggio melody seems to have some chord progression. up down up down up down.

Finally have something I would call trance. I prob like my less trance version better though.

I basically killed the main melody and replaced it with arpeggios. 1 arp. per bar, repeat. And bam there is that trance sound.

I have seen the light.

Finally understanding were I went "wrong"

Disco and allot of other music, 4 measure chord progression, 4 to the floor.

Trance.Chord progression if there is any, is over 8 to 16 bars. Melody can have a chord progression, but does need a repetition over not just one bar.

And then there is the loop as I call it, over 8 bars, if you repeat something for a shorter period of time, the trance is gone.
I have been testing this. A simple beep beep beep or arpeggio over 8 bars, gives the trance feel.

I remember people were explaining this to me on page 1 and 2 of this topic , but it took me this long to really grasp it.

And about those 8 bars, if we talking drums and bassline for some trance tracks make that 32 bars at least.

Classic trance and acid trance seems to be at least two trance genres I like.
Progressive and vocal trance less.

Although I should maybe post this in the struggle topic, my last two attempts at trance although failing for some part, do mark a mile stone in my music learning journey,

At the start my tracks had every instrument in the same key. Back then I did not really had a choice.
My earns were not trained enough to recognize if I was in tune.
These last two track are a mile stone because I have a melody kinda ignoring the chord progression below it.

While working on this tracks also noticed that some notes belonging to the scale, don't fit well and some out of scale notes do fit a certain chord progression.
I wont loose any sleep over that. I remember a music lesson you tube vid, were an american woman played something, while looking at the class behind her, and asked if that belonged to the scale ?

Some notes did of course not belong to the scale, but we did not hear anything wrong with it, and that was the point she was making.
Use your ears.

I hope my next lines will inspire people to not give up when people tell you, you did not make a hit yet.
It took me about 4 months if I remember right to start recognizing what in tune means.
Most people who start making music will have this problem.

Now after 2 years I might be able to stay in tune without the mark current scale tool.

I was a bit over enthusiastic when I stated, I had seen the light on trance.

I had great help though, and I am starting to recognize filter changes from key changes.

Trance is much more about filter changes, and fading stuff in and out, then its about key and or chord progression changes,

For now I am working on hip hop.

A lot I learned needs to sink in, and for me working on something else is the way forward.


I need to make a choice.

Start all over and go for a 100% trance tracks, and or release two versions, like they are now on my hard disk.
One version a more pop version, and the other a trance version, thank you musicbear.

The one thing to mention for others who want to make acid and or trance.
You cant do this without filter automation ( in lmms terms)
Both need work though.

What I really like about the version, I got help with, that it fits the trance structure perfect, still its not like most trance.
( Ii's because I have a chord progression, pun intended )
But is it a bad thing ? to do it a bit different, nope
