I think he said "rigid" 4ths i.e. proper 4ths but it might have been "bridged" because that's what he then played i.e. one finger "bridging" 2 strings to play a 4th interval.
And the usual wrongness I've heard is playing it in 5ths (power chords) instead of 4ths. Not correct but 5ths do actually sound pretty good too.
But I can't work out why talking about funk reminds you of that riff, probably the least funky in the history of music
