If you're on windows, you have to remove your old version first. Windows doesn't cope very well with parallel installations.

yeah, I had lmms on windows 7, then I upgraded to 8. Then I deleted the one on 7, and downloaded lmms for 8. When I tried to load the program this came up:

the application has requested the run time to terminate it in an unusual way.

Well, I have no idea what's going on there. I don't have any windows computers so I can't really help with that. Hope you find a solution.

(Maybe a registry clean up or something? Does windows still have registry?)

theguitarplayer, that is interesting for several reasons. win8 is by common vote registred as ..crap -is it a 32 or 64 bit install?
What lmmsare we talking about - last 'safe' 0.4.15, or latest PR (0.9.2)
If its the PR you could have stumpled over something.
Any whitch, you properly need to remove everything (not anything you made yourself, but make a safe-didk with that) -after the remove, you should re-download, and then re-install

It is (0.9.2) 64 bit version I tried to install. I do not know what "safe-didk" means.

Yes. They've already been merged in git.
