This conversation can be a slippery slope.
At the end of the day, it's a purity vs. productivity conversation.
The major issue with popular, well recognized presets is that they make the song sound cheap to those familiar with them -- other producers. If producers are your target audience, you may lose respect over this. But don't lose sleep. Synths can be very hard to master. It took J.S. Bach nearly a lifetime to master the organ, and his whole family were organists.
There is only so much time in a day and as a hobbyist, I think presets aren't cheating -- they are critical part of the creative process.
