Funny that you mention a swell sound.

Sounds like that is one thing I start to notice in tracks. ( to hide the music is repetitive )

Yep. I myself noticed that a few times too.
Especially when an Lmms user on this forum, pointed it out in a few Rap/DnB tracks etc.
Then I started to look at swell sounds, in a much different light. And started to see their
creativity and usefulness in music tracks.

I love you sound tuts.
I learn allot form it.

Glad to know, that people are finding them useful and learning alot from them
and other tuts, posted by musikbear, Leche, mr.lmmsguy and other Lmms users too etc.

In that case, I think it's time, I made some tuts, specifically on Trance sounds
and 80's style sounds. (Even though, I have 1 or 2 of them, posted already)
I'll try and work on those this week and post them up as soon as I can.

On another note, I have a Synth 1 pad sound tut, that I'm still working on.
I hope to put that tut up soon.

I have found a drum tutorial, but I am getting confused and or, the open and closed hi hats in lmms don't belong together?

Notice the drummer in the you tube vid. The rimshot and hihats.

Hi hat closing on 2 and 4 , can I do this in lmms ?
When I try the lmms sampels it sounds nothing like the vid.
( its like the open and closed hi hats dont belong together ? )

Second ska question, this guy is talking about a pause.
What is confusing me though, how to do this in lmms, I cant figure out were that pause should be timing wise.

Is it on 1 2 3 or 4 or in between ?
He says:
left righ left right left right pause, so that would be in lmms terms on 3 ?
You skip the third note, in the second bar ?

On a site note not all ska has that pause, the first vid I linked is ska, but does not do that pause.

Ahhh. It seems you have forgotten one little key something, that I believe you mentioned,
months ago, that gives ska it's unique characteristics, when compared to reggae.

Ska has an upbeat cheery sound and vibe to it.
If I remember correctly, in one of the vids you posted, one of the people they interviewed
made that mention too.

It's thanks to you, giving us that small bit of info and posting vids on Ska, that I was able to hear
and partially understand, the difference between the two styles.
Just that statement, that Ska has an upbeat cheery sound and vibe to it, made me see
both styles, in a completely different manner.

And then,...........it all started to make sense.

Thank you and yes, this does help, now I only need to figure out the drums.

I do not know, I did not try.
Maybe the LMMS samples do not allow it?

Several possibilities :
- download sample banks until you find the right samples.
- sample your video reference, and cut it into several one shot samples.
- sample this video, put the audio track in LMMS, find the bpm, and use it as a reference track to do tests until you find the right samples.
- Synthesize your hats.
- work with layering of samples (and synthesized sounds).

I like the sample the video idea.

That should make it easier in lmms to find were I want the hits.
