I am not gonna pay for that, but the preview is enough for me.

First line is "our" bassline.

It says its from Nile rogers and Bernard Edwards.

Those names I recognize. The guitar players of Chic.

Nile Rodgers:
as producer and performer with many artists including Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Philip Bailey, Thompson Twins, Sheena Easton, David Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Duran Duran, Madonna, INXS, Britney Spears, Spoons, and more recently, Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Avicii, Disclosure, Sam Smith, Pitbull, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, Nervo, Laura Mvula, Sigala, Keith Urban and Christina Aguilera. On April 7, 2017, Rodgers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received an Award for Musical Excellence.
Bernard Edwards
Those productions with Norma Jean Wright, Sister Sledge, Sheila and B. Devotion, Diana Ross, Johnny Mathis, Debbie Harry and Fonzi Thornton

I tried my sheetmusic reading skillz again, and it took prob 20 min but...

Its !

G EEE E EFGA BCDEA ( E minor)

Most are 1/4 notes.

First one is an 1/8 and 4th E is an 1/16

For those that watched Top Gear, how hard can it be ? :P

I seriously wonder if the 1/4 note in my previous post was right.

I re did the bassline with what should be the right notes.

I noticed something interesting. Most of the notes in my rappers delight bassline, had a different length, even the ones that should be the same.

I think that was what D.Ipsum was hearing.

There was one thing I did not like, about the intro.
Using that sheet music also solved that, it shows one note before the actual base line starts.
So now I have a transition :)

Don't forget that, because it's in Em, that F is an F# and there's also a C# in it. And as always with funk styles the rests are really important.

And if you really want to amaze your friends, the posh music name for that odd note before the first measure gets going is an anacrusis. No, I have no idea why either ;).

Anacrusis :o

Nice to learn though, now lets hope I can remember it.

Its quite funny you mention a F# and a C#.

When I put "my" notes into lmms, and of course had the scale marked, I noticed two notes not fitting the scale. lol
I remember an F.

My sheet reading needs more practice, and this bassline is prob. a good exercise.

I have been using a midi file for help, but my ears don't agree with the midi file, its close but no cigar.
That also why I got yet again frustrated. Hearing its not right, but not knowing how to fix it.
This sheet music should help me.

For those wondering how I can hear its not right, that's quite simple.
I know 99.9% of the lyrics from rappers delight from the top of my head, so that rap and bassline are burned into my brains.
And I am talking the 14 min version, not the 6 min one.

When this was a hit, I was even younger then I am now ;)
I was about 15 years old, and wanted to learn that rap, even though back then I did not understand everything they said, because English is not my native language, and back then we could not google it.

I was trying to make some rap tribute in lmms, but there is a serious problem I cant get around.
Allot of the older raps have a lot of scratching in it.

An example of a rap classic, with the pink panther theme. ( did somebody say syncopation ? )

I should also mention Curtis blow - the breaks.
But I seriously doubt that is easy to do in lmms, first the sound that starts at 9 sec.
Then I love that funk break at 2 min, but again that's gonna be nightmare for me to do in lmms.

I am not the only person loving it, I should learn to read tabs and slow the song down ? ;) :

If anybody has a clue on how to do this in lmms, I am always eager to learn. :)

I hope this works, its mostly for musicbear, to show what I did with his file.
But off course anybody can have a look and listen.

Its about my jam on it cover attempt. I like what I have now, although its maybe not 100% the same as the original, I think I am damn close. ( close enough )
Hope you guys agree.

Last nite I tried AppImage.

( that a self installer for lmms on Linux )

I got a link to download it a few days ago from one of the devs and last nite also gave some feedback at discord.
( its almost fully working :) )

But how to test if lmms is working ? Start a new track :)
Some here might remember the trouble I had to make trance. Musicbear however has opened up my eyes.

Last nite I was listening to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-oluoEQCk0

I like that and it made me wonder, because I found out I am not a trance fan, but I do like trance mixes, like in the vid.

So in lmms, I made a fat beat ( 3 layered kicks), and very simple bassline ( c4, c3,c4, c3 and so on )

Then to mimic, a trance mix I added some stuff, and some automation. ( to make trance you need to automate some filters )

The result made me smile, I made trance and I like it.

Now I have a problem though. RC4 is released. :P

I can't code, but I can help the devs by testing their rc's, and give feedback if it working. (in my case on openSUSE (Linux))

So now I will be probably compiling rc4.

Good news for Linux users and vst. The minor issue were if you click a button on synth1, the knob value jumps to max, is now fixed. :)

I noticed this while trying the appimage version.
