If you're using Synth 1 in Vestige.
Try turning the Pitch knob on the Vestige plugin, while the song plays etc, listen to it a couple of secs, and see how it sounds.
Take your time.

Unless I turn the knob to 100% my ears start to revolt.

If I understand that knob right, 100% is one octave. I hope some one with better understanding of that knob can explain it better.

Actually, every 1% you turn, the pitch for the instrument or plugin used, sounds different.
eg. 1% sounds different, in comparision if you turned the knob to 2%.
10% sounds different to -10% etc.

The way Synth1 responds to that pitch control in Vestige is interesting. As I understand it the control is supposed to be for very fine pitch changes -100 to +100 changing by just + or -1 semitone....and that's how it works with say Triple Osc. But Synth1 actually swings a whole octave either way so you could use it to tune up or down an octave or a fifth etc. You should find some in-between percentages that sound quite good e.g. around 60% gives you a fifth and a fourth is around 40%.

To get an idea of how these intervals sound you can set up the same tune in 2 different Synth1 tracks and then play with the pitch control on one of them. It's interesting how it gets horribly out of tune then gradually nicer and then out of tune again a few times as you go from 0 to 100.

OTOH you could just move all the notes in one track up or down in the piano roll by different amounts and see how that sounds. Then you'd know things like C and G together sound good, C and F sharp sound pretty bad etc. And of course you can also do that inside Synth1 using the Shift function which changes the note that plays in semitones....so set Shift to 4 and when you play C the note that actually sounds is E, set Shift to 9 and C sounds as A etc.

It's no wonder it's so easy to get confused.

Thank you, and that was the point I was trying to make, for people like me its far easier to move the notes in the piano roll. so you can actual see what you're doing.

The start of my popcorn cover has an automated pitch. It was meant as a joke, because I struggled so much to get it in tune.
So now it starts with an out of scale note, that goes into scale.

Maybe it has to do with my mouse. Its very hard to find those around 40 and 60% values, which are G and E.
Maybe I should double click that pitch knob and then type in the value. Then I can go easy from 0 to 1, to 2 and so on.
With the mouse it always jumps far more then 1%. Me having a high dpi ? gaming laser mouse, prob does not help in this case.

Its one thing I miss on Linux. On windows this mouse has a program, were you can totally fine tune how responsive the pointer on you're screen is.
I could then easily set up an lmms profile.

Off topic, in every game I play on Linux or windows, I have to move the mouse sensitivity down a lot, otherwise it will be almost impossible to hit any A.I. or real life opponent.

An example, to move the pointer from one side of the screen to the other side of the screen, I only have to move my mouse a bit over 1 inch.
I do like this in general, but its not so nice in lmms when using knobs.

I wonder if you see the problem with this track. ( or at least the problem I have)

In this song I used Mayor, Minor and inverse chords. There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes the melody rather glued to its position.
Had I not used chords, this problem would be almost non existing.

The tune is at C (mayor) and the only other option, without having to change too much is G. I still then have to delete the middle note from 3 chords, (Thank you musicbear, for that great tip)
All other options (notes) cause far more issues. (more out of scale notes)

I can upload the track again, if you want to have a look at it.

If we only looks at that one synth, instead of c, d or e will prob be the best note, but i can't do this, without having to change the chord progression more then I want too. ( it would totally change the melody)

Also, if it's a special Synth 1 preset, put a name of the preset and other relevant info etc. here on this Forum, so it'll be easier on my side.

PS: Oh, if I take too long to respond to you, don't worry.
It's because, I've been taking my time, working on a few music tracks, for the past couple of days.
And testing out some new, Vst's with small file sizes, that I never knew existed.
It's Fun, yet partially tiring so far. Ha! Ha!
Still have lots to go.

I'll check it out as soon as I finish relax.

I had a full Saturday morning, walking up a fancy hill side residence.
Lots of walking.
Nice view of the sea too.
Alot of friends that live on a hill full of fancy houses, were expecting me to visit them.
Some are apparently Lmms users too.
And I spent a long time, trying to find the entrance road, to where they lived and couldn't find it. Lol!
Walking up and down that hill was something else.
Kinda fun too.

Good to hear there are more and more people using LMMS.

I have friends that want me to use Fruityloops, Albeton or Cubase instead of lmms.

They fail to explain to me why though.

Cubase I can understand a bit, but fruity loops ?
Because is has more presets ?
