Tutorial 12

How to make my Anime Violin Lead sound
Good for lead melodies etc.

First off, we find a default soundbank.
Image

And we take off all LFO's etc.
In other words the numbers 1 and 2 and Tempo and Key button, must all be off,
or not lit up, like in the pic shown.
Image

-------------------------------------------------

1) Set oscillator 2, to the saw sign.
Image
Note: We are not using Osc 1 for this tut. ;)

Turn Osc 2 pitch dial to 25.

--------------------------------------------------

2) Mix = Turn it full right. Yep. Literally full right.
Image

--------------------------------------------------

3) Amplifier Section :D
Image
A= 42

-------------------------------------------------

4) Filter Section
Image

frq = 81
res = 14

-------------------------------------------------

5) LP = 24 is what we want for this sound.
Image

------------------------------------------------

6) In the Tempo Delay section :D
Image
Leave the blue letters on ST

Turn the d/w dial = 23

-------------------------------------------------

7) Now we go to the Unison Section
Image

Now press the Unison button until the circle on the left side, is bright green.
Bright green means it is on. If it's not green, that means it is off.
Image

Go to the num section.
Image
Press the top grey square button and raise to 4

Now, do you see the dials?
Image
Pitch = 0
det = 22

If you want, you can turn the Pitch dial to 7 or 12 .
I suggest 12, because it makes some cool sounding notes. :D

-------------------------------------------------
Press alot of keys like crazy and you'll get a synth sounding, Anime violin sound.
Good for Anime game projects too. ;)

I hope you enjoyed this tut.
Have Fun dudes!! 8-)
Okay, I've decided to do an extra special sound effect tut, for you guys today.
Check the tut below.
So don't worry, more lead sound tuts, will come afterwards. :)
Tutorial 13

Today we make the sound of a:
Water Fall

Today, we make a sound, that sounds like a valley, full of cool rushing water falls.
This tut is so short, it's embarrassing. Lol! :P

First off, we find a default soundbank. :)
Image

And we take off all LFO's etc.
In other words the numbers 1 and 2 and Tempo and Key button, must all be off,
or not lit up, like in the pic shown.
Image

And now we begin the tut.

------------------------------------------------

1) First off, go to Osc 2 and select the noise shape.
Image
Alot of sound effects are made, from this noise shape.

------------------------------------------------

2) Now we only want to use the noise wave in Osc 2, and none of the waves, from Osc 1.

So turn the Mix dial full right.
Image

Turning the dial full right, means Osc 1 is now silenced and unusable. And that is what we want.

-----------------------------------------------

3) Now we go to the Amplifier Section. :)
Image

A = 90
R = 74

-----------------------------------------------------

4) Now lets go to the Filter Section.
Image

frq = 60
res = 8
sat = 86

Make sure vel is on too. Green light. :)

-------------------------------------------------------

5) Select BP 12
Image
BP 12 helps give us the sound we want to achieve.

--------------------------------------------------------

6) Now it's Tempo Delay Section time.
Image
We're leaving the Blue letters ST as it is. But if you want, you can use X or PP if you want too.

Turn the Tempo Delay dials:
fdbk = 55
d/w = 44

Now make sure, that Chorus Flanger is on too. A lighted yellow means it is on. :)
-----------------------------------------------------

7) Press the Unison button, to turn it on. Green means it is on.
Image
Turning on Unison, makes our water falls, sound fatter and fuller.

-----------------------------------------------------

And that's the end of our tut.
Wow! That was short. I guess you didn't realise how easy it was to make Waterfall sounds, in Synth. Lol!

------------------------------------------------------

Hold down the Y key on your keyboard for a while. It'll sound like a valley full of rushing water falls.

While holding down a button, press another button gently, and it'll sound like someone is splashing into one.

Hold down many keys, and it'll sound like alot of noisey waterfalls.

Anyone care for a swim, or a nice cool jump, down one of those tall cool waterfalls?

Yippee!! 8-)
Tutorial 14

Lovely lead (old school game sound)

Today we use Lmms' internal plugin called sfxr to make a lead sound for chiptune or old school games. 8-)

1) Bring in sfxr into Lmms. :D
Image

--------------------------------------------------------

2) In the Wave Section, you'll notice that it's on the default green coloured Square wave.
We want to use the Sine wave. So choose the sine wave.
The sine wave is the 3rd shape. The one that looks like a sound wave.
Image

For more clarification, the sine wave, looks like the Synth 1 sine wave.
It looks like this. The sign with the red dot on the left of it. That's the sine wave.
Image
That's the one to choose, in the sfxr plugin.

--------------------------------------------------------

3) In the Env section (aka the Blue dials):
ATT (attack) raise it a bit, to 0.032 or raise it slightly higher. 0.5 is another good number.

DEC (Decay) dial to 0.668 or a bit more, or less if you want.
Image

---------------------------------------------------------

4) Now we go to the section with the green dials, called the Freq section.
Image
Turn the START dial to 0.7.

Note: (Turning the Freq dial, gives you different sounds.
Using different wave signs, in combination with the Freq. dial,
gives you lots of sound possibilities.)

And that's the end of our super duper short tut. :P

---------------------------------------------------------

Now slightly press hold notes eg. Y or U key etc. and try and make a nice melody. ;)
This sound is good for those old school Gameboy games, where the hero is in his house relaxing, or waking up,
and getting ready, to explore his house, or the big outside world. :D

Tip: For this synth sound, Hold pressing each key, while making the melody, makes the sound, sound nice.
Just pressing keys, will not give you the nice sound and it'll sound short and cut off.

Now go and make some nice game music. Enjoy!! 8-)

---------------------------------------------------------
Tutorial 15

Inside of a scary Ufo type sound :|

Today we again use the Lmms' internal plugin, called sfxr to make the sound, of inside a cartoony UFO.
So lets make that sound dudes. 8-)

1) Bring in sfxr into Lmms. :D
Image

--------------------------------------------------------

2) In the Wave Section we want to use the Sine wave. So choose the sine wave.
The sine wave as mentioned in the previous tut, is the 3rd shape.

ATT (attack) raise it a bit, to 0.646

DEC (Decay) dial = Full right.
Image

---------------------------------------------------------

4) Now we go to the section with the green dials, called the Freq section.
Image
Turn the:

START dial = 0.215.

V.DEP = 0.28

V.SPD = 0.526

Note: (Turning the Freq sections, Start dial, gives you all sorts of different sounds.
And with different wave signs, in combination with the Start dial, you can make lots of sound possibilities.)
So don't be afraid, to turn that dial, and make all sorts of unique sounds. :)

And that's the end of our 2nd super duper super short sfxr tut. :D

---------------------------------------------------------

Now slightly press and hold some keys eg. the Y key.
It kinda sounds like a cartoon character entering a UFO, filled with alien tech, making lots of whirling noises. :o

Have fun. Enjoy!! 8-)
Tutorial 16

How to make a simple: SWEEPY AIR RUSH SOUND

Note: there are many different ways to make air rush sounds.
But this is a super duper, easy to make version.

Okay, so you guys know the drill.

1) First off, select a default soundbank.

or not lit up, like in the pic shown.

Image

Note: The noise wave, is what gives us alot of the air rush, sweep sounds and sound effects.

----------------
4) Now we go to the mix section
Image
And we turn the mix dial, all the way to the Full right.

We turn the mix dial all the way to the right, because we want to use the noise wave
and none of the waves from Osc 1.

----------------
5) Amplifier Section
Image
A = 62 ............or slightly more if you want.

------------------
6) In the Filter Section.
Image

Image
For this tut, Select BP 12 for a nice air rush sound.
Or....
HP 12 for a strong hissy sounding air steam air rush sound. eg. Psssssssssssssssstttt!!

Or you can choose one of the others. Each one gives you a different sound air rush effect. ;)

Note: If you're using HP 12 for your sound, lower the volume a bit, because it's very loud and very strong sounding.

------------------
8) Tempo Delay Section
Image
fdbk = 50.........or slightly more if you want.

d/w = 44

-------------------
9) Now for the Unison Section.
Image

Press the Unison Button to turn it on. Because we want this air rush sound, to sound wider and fatter.
Image
A highlighted Green circle at the left, means, the Unison is on.

-------------------
10) And that's the end of our tut.
-------------------

Press and hold any key, to hear different air rush sounds with different pitches.
Change the filter passes.... eg. BP 12 or LP DL etc.
Image
.....to get different sounding air rush sounds.
--------------------

Enjoy air bending dudes. 8-)

It sounds like Mario, or some old school game character, bunny hopping across the stage. :)

Have fun. And enjoy hopping to the end!! 8-)
Tutorial 19
It's back to Synth 1 Vst guys. And today, we have a treat.
We make a special, yet strange sounding synth sound. Good for Leads, or background melodies. :D

Brandy's Meow lead synth sound

First off, we select a default Synth 1 soundbank.
Image

And we take off all LFO's etc.
In other words the numbers 1 and 2 and Tempo and Key button, must all be off,
or not lit up, like in the pic shown.
Image

1) Put Osc 1 on saw wave. Since that's the shape that makes our meow sound nice and meowish. ;)
Image

----------------------------------
2) FM dial = 23
Image

----------------------------------
3) Mix dial = Turn the dial full left
Image

We turn the mix dial, fully to the left, because we only want to use Osc 1 and not, Osc 2.

---------------------------------
4) Now lets go to the Amplifier Section. :D
Image
Att dial = 33

---------------------------------
5) Filter Section
Image
frq = 37

We turn the frq dial left, because we want to get the meow sound perfect enough.
Note: The more you turn the frq dial, the different a sound will sound.

----------------------------------
6) Select LP24 dudes. :D
Image

----------------------------------
7) In the Effects Section.
Do you see the On button.
Image
Press the On button to turn it on. It'll turn Yellow. Yellow means it is on.

Do you see the blue letters called a.d.1?
Click on those blue letters and select d.d

d.d will help add and give us the crazy meow synth sound.

----------------------------------
And that's it.
Press some keys, and you have a meow synth sound melody.
Now go make some weird sounding music. Enjoy! :)
Hey brandy!
I'm back again with another request since you did so well with my other one :)
I'd like you to recreate this "lead" (I don't know what I'd call it... a stack, maybe?) from this video at the very beginning. You can't miss it :)
