This is the sound I cant produce.

At 0.21 the beat, which continues through out the number

The instrument used by Jarre seems to be this one.

When looking for a vst, I found the Rhythmus vst.

The problem is that this plugin freezes both LMMS and wine.

So I am still looking for hints and or tips, to make this sound.

I already downloaded a Oxygene 4 cover made with LMMS. This was very help full, but I do not like the sound.
I did borrow the notes from the piano roll, but I want a sound much closer to the original.

A suggestion for a better forum to ask this is also welcome. ( if this is not the right place for these types of questions )
I am asking for help on the wine forums too.

But a moderator only answered, it was not an wine issue, and pointed me to this forum.

I got so annoyed by his reply, I installed LMMS on windows 7 pro, 32 bit.

No problem there loading that .dll file with vestige.

Now lets see how he is going to explain that.

Some people should not be moderators.
a square mix -sync would be the foundation. then you need to work with eq, and dampend the 'harshness'
attack is steep, decay fast (<0.3
-but its not at all simple to 'copy' an instrument
You may try to search and see if Jarre has written something about it
(- you will not get the exact sound.

Thank you, I will look into that.

I am not looking for the exact sound, but I want at least something that's close to it.

I probably have already found a sound for the lead, which is also different from the real Jarre sound,
But its the same kind of sound. ( I hope I make sense )

Currently I am looking into how to use my soundblaster life sound card from my old pc.
I am currently using the onboard sound from the mobo, and I am not entirely happy.
To give a simple example when using the equalizer in winamp, the most left and most right slider almost do nothing.
They did when I used the soundblaster life card.
I am also pretty sure I hear more cracks and pops when listening to sounds from lmms.

I already googled, but this is not going to be simple.
Unless I can use jack instead of pulse, but I fear the games I play ( steam ) will not like that.
Currently no money, but I would like to build a second pc, with a pro sound card and use that for lmms.
Then installing jack instead of Pulse audio should be allot simpler. ( because I would not need to worry about games)
I do however seem to have 4 options.

Wooah! This song is classic.
I haven't heard this song in a long time.
I was wondering how to make that sound too.
It kinda sounds like a trumpet with a dampener place at the front of it.
Love this tune!! :D
I am still struggling. :)

This only gives me even more respect for Jarre though.

I found out I am doing something completely wrong, but I do not find a solution.

First attempt was to start with the lead.

Its better to start with the bassline ( at least for me )

I always manage to get one part right, but then when I want to play two tracks together, the shit hits the fan.
( clearly a timing issue )

Is there someone here which can answer the following question?

What would be the right beats per minute setting for jarre ( Oxygene 4 )

And does some one maybe have a clue on the right length of the notes ? ( bassline )

There are two sounds.
One is basically da da da da da da da da ( almost through out the entire soung )
The other one is best explained by this vid.

( if you play you tube vids with vlc you can slow down vids btw :P )

I am currently at 96 bpm, does this sound right ?

I just listened to it and I reckon I'd be going with something between 120 and 130bpm. Definitely not as slow as 96. I often have a lot of trouble with the bpm when I am remixing. I usually download the song and add it as an instrument and use a bunch of kicks to get the right bpm.
Thank you very much. :)

I read the 96 some were on the web, but you confirmed this cant be right.

Importing the song as an instrument is the first thing I am going to try.

Until now, I was constantly switching between the audio player and lmms. :)

Another thing I often do is load it up in audacity and slow down the tempo, to get all the notes a lot slower, as I can concentrate a lot more on the individual notes.
