Instrument Layering Options

Like in FL Studio. An instrument is linked to another, and when a key is pressed on one instrument, the other instrument is pressed at the same time.
ZynAddSubFX can do this, but I'd like to see the same capabilities for regular instruments outside of Zyn.
Also, is LMMS still being developed? The last update was in 2013...

You can already sort of do this by daisychaining instruments together via MIDI. Enable MIDI output on one instrument, then enable MIDI input on one or more other instruments, then anything played on the first instrument is played on the others as well. It's not a perfect solution but works reasonably well, as long as you don't need any LMMS-specific features such as per-note pitch bends.
LMMS development is actually literally more active than ever - you're just not looking in the right places. LMMS development has migrated away from sourceforge and into github.
