power of preset instruments

to make "good" sounds, do i need to install a bunch of VSTs?
or are the preset instruments like LB 303, 3xOSC powerful enough?
also i found that when i have a bunch of Synth1's, LMMS tends to crash easily.
will the same thing happen with zynaddsubfx, since it also utilizes GUI?

Absolutely not, you don't need VSTs to make "good" sounds.

Triple osc, Zyn, etc. are more than powerful enough to create almost any sound imaginable. Especially when combined with a bunch of effects that LMMS offers.

nothing against samples, but I never use them and I never will. why? why should I? I have found everything I want. Plus, listeners don't have to download to hear it.
