Hey there

First, i love lmms and its the best open source music-software i've ever seen. But i have many vst-instruments and if im making a song with lmms, there are often more than 8 or 10 windows opened. So what about using tabs like in Browsers (Firefox, chrome). I think it would be easier to navigate between the windows (song-edit, beat, controller, piano-roll, VSTs, Mixxer, beats, notes, automation, oscillator, usw...). What do you think about tabs in lmms???

Sorry for my bad english, i hope you understood what i wanted to say :)
Tabs could work. I often find myself having to grab and move windows...

ps. Do you know that you can switch between the windows by using <Ctrl> + <Tab> ?

I can see how the tabs would be a benefit to workflow and the windows do minimize to tabs at the bottom of the UI, somewhat. If you look at tabs there are great for browsing, but they are fixed. The best solution I can see would be, to have floating tabs or an option to have fixed or floating so the currant widow tabs can move. Taking this a step further having all the windows/tabs having a sticky attribute so they can dock with each other. Programs I use that have this feature are Adobe CS5, Blender, CryEngine3. This is a great asset to workflow at times especially if there are multiple windows/tabs in use.

I agree 100% - that would be awesome. I use tabs all the time (and actually I use the Ctrl+Tab shortcut to switch between tabs) so I already know how much that would help with LMMS. I'll have to try it in LMMS to switch between windows (and I think if I put all the windows in the same place it will probably give it that tab-like effect, so you may have found a temporary solution until that idea can get rolling. :)
I always maximize the windows and use the small icons at the topleft for navigating, so in that sense I already use tabs. :P

But yeah, please put at least the 4 main editors on tabs together.
yeah i totally agree that tabbed view is the way to go with LMMS, it probably wouldnt be that hard for someone to code from the mdi-window view at the moment to tabbed view as qt has this functionallity already.
If anyone is familiar with the tracker Renoise it has 3 vertical segments,
(1) a browser at the top and where all the transport controls etc are
(2) a middle tabbed section where the main editors are song, pattern, sampler, mixer etc
(3) the bottom section where there is a a scrollable fx chain and automation patterns are.

search google images for renoise or goto their website http://www.renoise.com/ to see what i mean ;)
Tabs instead of windows? Hmm.......... that's a neat idea. But I'd say put an option button or setting, to choose or switch from tabs to windows, may be better. But that'll be "alot of Hard work" for the Lmms Crew. He! He! :D
I think this is a nice Idea, but often I also like to see what’s going on in different windows at the same time. Probably a mixed solution like in Opera (<15) would be fine!
just a comment on this necro-topic. You can work tabbed-like. Just maximize all windows, and then use the buttons on second row to switch between each window. It gives a tabbed funtionality (instuments cant, but all main windows can)
