LMMS has some 10 instruments that claim to be pianos. Are there any that sound real? I don't want the synthesized sound.

Eh? None of the LMMS instruments claim to be pianos...

While some of the piano presets in LMMS are quite OK, if you want "real" (i.e. sampled) sound, try "GeneralUser GS SoftSynth v1.44.sf2" (free sounfont file, available in various places) with SF2 Player in LMMS.

There are better soundfonts, but many of them are not free (i.e. commercial).

Also, Piano One VST is good.

Or you could get a real piano, then build a complicated robot that takes midi signals and plays the piano based on them, then record the output of the piano with good quality microphones.

(The SF2 might be easier though)

All of those answers are great.
Piano one and Sound Fonts are good too. I highly recommend it.

Or you can try DSK Piano if you want.

I downloaded Piano One. I realize they openly describe it as a shill to get you into the online store, but be forewarned--when you go into the Settings window, there are buttons for selecting other instruments at the upper right. Click on any one, and the Settings window is overlaid with a Store Access window that won't go away. At least, I haven't gotten it to go away yet.

You can still play the piano with current settings (sounds as impressive as they say, I must admit), but why can't they just tell you up front what the deal is? I've used software for thirty years now with the old 30 day free trial--after that, pay the activation fee or it shuts down. OK--but they say so up front. These surprise tactics just make me wonder what else I'm in for if I do business with them. I'm strongly motivated to shop elsewhere, as impressed as I am with their product lineup. Shame, really. :(

But if you want to play with it, I downloaded it to a Win7 system with only 2GB RAM and the cheapie motherboard 'sound card', and it seems to perform flawlessly, with a very straightforward interface. Loads in a flash, too.

artao, there are several vst's on the page you link to, whitch one is your favorite?
the claim that mda is "just fl-keys" (comment on youtube) could be true. mdaPiano is serious good, and works perfectly in lmms. On top of that its so small 1.1 mb, and there is no load on the cpu -recommended

Oh geez, sorry ... I thought I'd direct-linked to a specific one LOL oops

I was referring specifically to EVM Grand Piano.
