Importing midi files

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Sorry, me again and it's probably just something I've missed but when I import a midi file I can edit the notes pitch, length, velocities etc. I can change the instrument that plays it, either by dropping a different instrument onto the track or even by creating a new instrument track then copying the notes from the midi track into its piano roll and completely deleting the original SF2 Player track. ( I do it like this because I really hate entering music directly on the piano roll rather than as notes in e.g. Anvil Studio).

But the one thing I can't work out is how to change the basic tempo. I can set whatever I like while I'm in piano roll and playing it in there plays that track at my chosen BPM, But as soon as I go back up to Song Editor level and hit play it resets the BPM to whatever was in the original imported midi file.

LMMS is fun but it's sometimes frustrating being so ignorant.

Check the song-global automation and delete any tempo values that you don't want (right-click the green tempo/bpm digits). This may solve your problem.
That does it, thanks a lot I'm going to have to learn more about automation cus it has already bitten me in several different ways. I've just realised that'show you can mange changing time signatures as well.

Steve
You can change the BPM in any part of the music you like, using the song-global automation.
I use to prerecord a midi on the keyboard, and it changes the tempo of the project, when I import the file.
So that's when I needed to go through the process fixing the tempos.
I usually don't do it anymore because of that issue.
Thanks. I was hoping to avoid having to learn about automation until I had the basics sorted out. But it seems to get involved all over the place, probably due to how I'm using LMMS so I guess I'll just have to get my mind round that as well.

I don't suppose there's any chance that LMMS is going to provide a score editor is there ? For that matter does any current DAW have a usable integrated score editor ? I seem to remember one in (expensive) Cubase years ago but I haven't looked for a while.

I guess most people just don't work with dots on lines any more :(.

Steve
Sorry, not in a while. MuseScore is free if you want to edit MIDI files as note sheets :)
Thanks but I've been using Anvil Studio (also free) to input notation and then export as midi or to modify existing midi files. MuseScore is better looking and prints nice scores but I find Anvil Studio slightly easier to use for input/editing.

Steve
OK :) And yeah, when LMMS import MIDI all other settings than the notes is imported as automation tracks, so when you start to play from the beginning all knobs you have tweaked which also have a setting from the MIDI file will be reset because of the automation track
