Synth1 I lost the presets

I have been cleaning up in some folders.
Because of this I broke some songs I created.

I have already fixed most of it, but I am having an issue with one track of one song still.

I cant find the preset I was using from the external zip banks, and because I have so many extra presets for synth1, I was wondering.

Can I look into the mppz file and see the name of the synth1 preset it tries to load ?
I still have copies of older mppz files, of this song, so if its in there, it will safe my day.

I have already been going through 4 zip banks, of which I know I had used, but no luck yet.
I hope I wont have to go through all zipbanks one by one.

Synth1 stores the presets in a temp folder when you access them from their zipbanks. To make sure your presets don't get sweeped up in a junk file cleaning process, I would recommend extracting all presets from their zipbanks and put them in seperate folders.

I was just able to solve it, at least good enough. Big lesson learned, but at least now, I don't have multiple places were synth1 is loaded from.
Which was not an problem until I started cleaning up.

When I first noticed I screwed up, I copied back files, which helped me some. and I wrote down 5 names of presets.
Something is confusing me, maybe there was already some mistake made by me, in this track.
I have again the ending, with which I was happy with. I deleted however one track.

I am lost on what sound was in this one track, but maybe I can figure that out, when listening to the uploaded version to soundcloud.
I however have already compared the two, and despite deleting one track, I don't seem to miss anything.

Yes, you can open the mmpz, but you get the best view in a code-editor, I believe note-pad will list continiously, and it can be a drag reading that, however -Since you know it is synth1, searching for blocks with that key, should be possible, even in note-pad

You get an readable version with :

so mmp as type instead of mmpz

I was expecting I could, and it being legal, because this is an opensource program.
(although off topic, I have hacked into .dll files, while making custom levels for a game)

I had already tried to open it, in the first text editor I could find, but that gave the usual gibberish of weird characters.
I will try again after renaming the file, but I suspect that I need a different text editor. (Linux)

I'am running A Debian based operating system.
I just tried the same thing, with two different text editors, and got this error.

12:28:55: The file "/home/single_hand_melody.mmp" does not look like a text file or the file encoding is not supported

. I just put the file in an easy to find location.
Next I'am going to try the programing editor Geany
Geany gave just me the same error.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it the Operating system?

I just tried saving one of my projects as .mmp (note:you can't just rename the file, you need to do Save As then change name there to .mmp). That gave me a text file.

But I still couldn't find the Synth1 preset names I was using in there anywhere.

(But that's LMMS 1.0.3 on Windows 7)

They way I understand things, it should be easier on Linux then on windows to do so. Although as musicbear said on windows notepad, can do it.

Do you have okular installed ? I just tried that one on openSUSE, and I could read everything.

Thank you, the "save as" worked for me also, I was just renaming the file.
It looks better in the programming editor, than a text editor.

NO i said save-as *.mmp
You can never just 'rename' a file, that will never do anything at all to the content
Open the project in lmms, and use save-as mmp
You can use a batch cmd in 'run-mode'
That looks like this:

But if you are not comftable with batch, then use save-as in lmms
