Adding a backing track in LMMS

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi everyone,

I've been tinkering with LMMS for a couple of days now, made a few songs from scratch and enjoying myself.

I'm now at the point where I want to try making a sort of remix of a pre-existing song, or rather an edit, like trying to add a few layers of other stuff on top.

Trouble is I can't work out how to add an audio track as a sample. I'm going about it by adding a square of the sample track to the song editor > double clicking the square > picking my song (in both .wav and .ogg) but no matter what I do I end up getting a silent track. Weirdest thing is I seem to remember doing this successfully in the past.

Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. 8-)
Are you using the audio file processor ?

No mate, is that included in the software or do I download it?

Is it like a converter?

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah don't use the "sample track" button, just go into the plugin menu (where it shows the triple oscillator, ZynAddSubFX, Monstro, etc.) and AudiofileProcessor is right at the top of the list. Drag that into the song editor and then do what you were doing before with the sample track and it should work.
"Sample Track" works fine for me. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. Maybe the file you're trying to import is a bit too large?

The problem with using the Audio File Processor is that it treats the backing track as a single sample. So to play it in its entirety, you have to add a note at the base (where the little green square is on the keyboard in the bottom of the Audio File Processor window) and extend that single note through to the end of the song. It's very tedious to do.

Have you considered exporting the track you created separately then combining it with the backing track in an external audio editing software like Audacity? It's a bit of a workaround, but I think it should work.

Keep in mind, though, that you won't be able to hear the backing track unless you start the playback at the point where the backing track begins. No matter how you put the backing track into LMMS, this will be true. You won't have that problem using Audacity though; it lets you play from any point.
audio file processor (afp)
https://lmms.io/documentation/AudioFileProcessor
is best suited for rather short samples. (believe the lim is 100 secd)
It wont work with samples of several minutes duration
The lmms component meant for that is Sample-track
https://lmms.io/documentation/Working_with_Samples : Samples as sounds
But..
If a single feature in lmms should be deemed insufficient, this is it :/
I can assure you, that this has priority, and that there will be significant improvements
I wrote about this last week

third from bottom :)
@ muiscbear, I have used the audio file processor, to import the original of a forest- the cure, James last Biscaya and pop corn into my cover.

The cure as an example, says sample length 352 sec. So I have been using the wrong tool ?

contently not, if you could load the whole sample, then its just fine. I just diddent think you could. AFP has more functionalities than sample-track, so AFP is the stronger component, but is meant for short samples :)
I see, thank you.
Appreciate the feedback guys n' girls.

Managed to get it working via AudioWhatseeMagoogle.
