hello
i am on ubuntu 10.04 and using lmms 0.4.8
i have started to face cpu overload : i can see the cpu meter going up to red
i thought i might cut my songs -so that they might use less cpu- in sequence then use audacity the re-construct them again ... will this help ????
thanks in advance

I'm on windows and this happens to me ,in periodic intervalls, when I'm using Vst-Instruments.
Don't know about your computer specs, but unfortunately LMMS needs/uses lots of cpu... although the requirements are described as "reasonably modest" (whatever that means...)
Try to use less instrument- and effect-plugins and don't forget about the freeze function.
Have a look here:
http://lmms.sourceforge.net/wiki/index. ... ent_Tracks
I think there are some known bugs/problems while freezing, so don't forget to save your work sometimes...

also do disable the diodes for instrument activity and ofcause the visualization.
perhaps some or all of the options on the general settings tab can aid performance as well. I have a buffer of 6400. For me that works well

after googling sometimes ... i found out that the cpu overload was an ubuntu general issue : even when idle cpu usage goes to 100 %
so i dont think it is entirely related to lmms : lmms cpu usage is 56 % or so
so i have installed lmms on winxp in order to make sure it had nothing to do with lmms
i opened same project under windows and sound came out perfectly clear ... without distorsion or saturation ...
still i find your tips very interesting and will try them on ubuntu
i just want to know if these tips are just a matter of lmms settings ...
thanks in advance ...

computer world is a very complicated and sometime confusing world for a guy of 53
it seems that after another googling the cpu overload on ubuntu is not a issue at all
i explain:
-when idle system usage is up to 60 % or so although it shows 100 % on process monitoring
-when you start an aplication ... system in the chart is replaced with the app ... and i can see according to project lmms takes up to 71 % or so of cpu usage
thai is acceptable for me as i intend to divide songs in parts that can assembled with lmms or audacity
thanks again for reply
