VST instruments not working

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello,
I downloaded a trumpet VST instrument, but it doesn't seem to be working.
When I try to load it the DLL file into VeSTige or the song editor I get the message "Cannot find any instruments."
I'm having this problem with other VSTs as well. I'm using Windows 10.
I am completely new, so forgive me if I'm doing something stupid :)
It might be easier to help if you said EXACTLY which VSTs have this problem (links to where they can be downloaded would be good). I use lots of VSTs and none of them do anything like that.

One thought, are you sure you have installed everything that comes with the VSTs? Some have instrument or other files that need to be installed in the right place for them to work.

Not all vst will work, but in fact 3/4 will

That is the part we need to solve first
All vst on this list
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Tested_VSTs
has been tested and works in lmms
For convenience sake you could try the tiny dl MDApiano, not only a simple easy one, but also a piano, with a quality output, but anyone from the list will be fine.
After the dl, read and follow this

The VST is the VSCO2 Trumpet: http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... et&id=2557
The downloaded files were "VSCO2_Trumpet_V2_-_64.dll" and "VSCO2_Trumpet_V2_-_64.mse".
The files are zipped, but when I have to load a VST in VeSTige, it can't go to the files in the zip map, because it only recognises DLL and EXE files. So I copied the DLL file out of the zip map to reach it, but then it says it cannot find any instuments.

Hello and welcome. :)

I don't know if this will work, but here it goes:

If you're storing your vst dll's, in the default Lmms vst folder......
Go to your Lmms settings menu at the top of the Lmms work screen and check and see
if the Vst folder path, leads to the default Lmms Vst folder, that has all of your Vst dll's.

If however, you're using a custom folder that you made yourself, to store your vst's
then you might have to change the folder path and lead that path, to your custom vst folder instead.
You can do that with the Vestige plugin too. :)
The folder path already led to the folder that stores the dll's.

so what happened when you tried one from the list i gave you?
The MDA Piano works fine, so I guess that VSCO doesn't work (the others I tried were VSCOs as well).
The VSCO2 Trumpet seems to work o.k. in my LMMS 1.1.3 on Win 10 x64 (and Win7 x64) though I've only given it a quick test (100+Mb single instrument romplers are not really my thing).

As I suggested before what you need is to extract both the .dll AND the folder containing all the instrument data from the zip file into the same LMMS plugin folder.

That works! Thank you very much :)
