I just downloaded LMMS on my mac. When I play the drum machine or play in the piano it makes clicking sounds along with the note. and when I loop drum samples it skips and is distorted. I have my buffer size all the way down. I have no idea what to do. My mac is a 2009 its not the newest but it has better audio than this I reckon.

i dont know about mac, but can give some general input..
In sound generation, loudness in excess is the main reason for distortions
Click artefact's happens when a wave-shape is initiated or terminated outside 0 dB
Those are general.
In lmms
specifically using a wrong sound-device can also lead to distortion
Does this fit in your case?

Yeah, mine clips a lot if that's what you're experiencing. Turn the volume in lmms to like 4% and your comp volume as high as you need.
Also, if that's not the problem, you could have an issue with your audio settings. Go to your preferences and check if the audio settings are correct. I have windows, so idk if this is right for you, but setting it to the sdl or sld or whatever setting fixes it.
When changing audio settings you may need to restart the program and keep changing the setting multiple times.
Ok hope this helps at all

Cant agree, Master in main window is best kept at default 100%
Mixer-Master i like to keep around 75%, and all project-specific sound-settings is made in mixer.
I made a video on this:
